Are you “Summer Garden Ready”?

Spring is turning into summer in gigantic steps. Especially given the extended winter season we “enjoyed” this year, we’re excited to be able to get outside, to garden, to entertain, and to enjoy the lengthening days and blue skies.

If you think that you’ve missed your chance to get a garden started for this year, let me say that now is still the time. The ground is ready, and seeds and seedlings planted now will germinate quickly and give you delicious veggies in the summer months. Visit your local garden center, and get your garden started!

Tomatoes and peppers are always favorites for the home garden. A vine-ripened tomato from your own backyard is a sensual delight by itself. And peppers, mild or hot, are one of the great garden treats of summer. Sweet banana peppers, bell peppers, and spicy jalapenos all add color, flavor, and goodness to your summer dishes. Herbs are another kind of planting you can start now and reap the rewards for the rest of the year. Dill, rosemary, parsley and basil all start fast and stay long in your garden.
