Italian Renaissance Dinner Party

Autumn. September, October and November. The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting cooler, the leafs are turning, and the yellows, oranges and reds are not only on the trees but also on the produce shelves.

This is the time when we are excited to get back into the kitchen: simmering stews, soups and sauces, braising, baking, and other forms of cooking that we try to avoid in hotter weather.

Thankfully, the cooler temperatures bring a whole slew of seasonal goodies to cook with, different in flavors and textures. Apples, pears, quince, figs, mushrooms, cauliflower, carrots, celery, celeriac, Brussels sprouts, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, leeks, and winter squash are just the beginning of the list!
