I am not a nutritionist. I am a chef, a foodie and a curious guy. So when I was recently introduced to Paleo 2.0, i decided it is worth sharing with you. A diet that does not make me give up on butter or egg yokes is a diet I can really come to appreciate!
PäNu or paleonutrition is a pastoral diet that (claims it) can improve your health by emulating the evolutionary metabolic milieu. In over simplified layman words: eating like a caveman to be healthier. However, Paleo has become polluted with crazy ideas like “A paleolithic diet is characterized by plenty of cultivated nuts” or “Milk and cheese are causes of cancer” or even “Eggs can be eaten, but you should throw away the yolks to avoid too much cholesterol” (you think the caveman really kept them aside for the creme anglaise?!). You can read a good summary of these crazy ideas here.
Paleo 2.0 came to life as a natural progress for Paleo, trying to fight the misconceptions that sometimes got as extreme as “The natural human diet is nothing but raw meat and water“. You can read a lot about Paleo 2.0 on the web, but I would sum it into some very basic statements:
- Saturated fats are NOT the enemy; Industrial engineered fats are
- Wheat and overly processed foods are not part of the human diet
- Excess Fructose is harmful to the human body
If you are ready to make the leap, check these 12 steps remove the neolithic agents of disease in an efficient and practical manner.
I would love to hear about your personal experience with Paleo 2.0, and will share some Paleo 2.0 compatible recipes soon. Happy gathering-hunting-eating!
