Cardamon Cinnmaon Kulfi

I know it is winter out there, yet I still like my cold desserts after dinner. Especially the ones with spicy earthy flavors that work so well when enjoying them by the burning fireplace.

Kulfi or Qulfiย is a popular frozen dairy dessert from the Indian Subcontinent. It is often described as “traditional Indian Subcontinent ice-cream”. It has a flavor that is nothing like western ice cream due to the use of sweetened condensed milk and the traditional flavors like cardamon, cinnamon, rose, mango, saffron and pistachio.

Recipe: Cardamon Cinnmaon Kulfi

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cardamon
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • Crushed pistachios, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Whip the whipping cream with cinnamon and cardamon to a soft cream consistency. Be careful not to over whip.
  2. Fold in condensed milk and gently mix to a uniform mixture.
  3. Pour into personal serving pans\cups, cover with saran wrap and freeze over night.
  4. Before serving, use a knife to separate the kulfi from the pan. Dip in boiling water and flip over a service plate. Garnish with pistachios and serve.

Quick Notes

  • Make a day in advance. Will keep nicely in freezer for at least 2 weeks.

Variations

  • Try different flavors: classic vanilla with seeds off one vanilla pod, any berries you like, and even Chinese flavor with five spice mix and some candied ginger.
  • You don’t have to go fancy with the service: simply serve in the pan\cup for informal dining.
